Profile

Title: Introduction to Implementation Science - need, terminology, examples, and resources

Borsika Rabin PhD, MPH, PharmD is an Associate Professor and Founding Faculty at the UC San Diego Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science, the Co-Director of the UC San Diego Dissemination and Implementation Science Center (DISC) and the San Diego CFAR Implementation Science Hub, and an MPI, PI, and dissemination and implementation (D&I) science expert on a number of NIH and VA Center grants and research projects. Her research focuses on improving population health outcomes in real-world clinical and public health settings through increasing the equitable reach, adoption, implementation, and sustained use of evidence-based interventions. She does this through the development of models, methods, and measures for D&I science and their application across diverse topic areas, populations, and settings to demonstrate their wide utility and broad generalizability. Dr. Rabin is committed to learning how best to meaningfully partner with community and clinical partners to co-create solutions. She has multiple NIH-funded research grants that are centered around improving health outcomes and well-being for underserved communities. She has extensive expertise in developing and implementing novel D&I science capacity building approaches including the D&I Models in Health webtool (https://dissemination-implementation.org) and the ACCORDS D&I Science Certificate Program at the University of Colorado for which she serves as a Co-Director.

LauraEllen Ashcraft is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Ashcraft is also an Implementation Science Methodologist in the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP) and the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, where she also serves as the Co-Director of the Dissemination & Implementation Science Core.

Title: Incorporating Implementation Science in Health Behavior Scholarship: A Focus on Study Designs

Dr. Prajakta Adsul is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and a Member of the Cancer Control and Population Sciences Research Program, at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of New Mexico. Most recently, she was nominated to serve as the Inaugural Director of the newly established Center for Advancing Dissemination and Implementation Science at UNM. Dr. Adsul is a primary care physician by training and was a Cancer Prevention Fellow with the Implementation Science team at the National Cancer Institute. As an implementation scientist, she uses community-based and participatory research approaches focused on health equity, often utilizing mixed methods that can help develop and test interventions and implementation strategies in pragmatic studies for cancer prevention and control.
