Dr. Maddock is a Regents Professor at Texas A&M University and the Director of the Center for Health & Nature, a joint initiative of Texas A&M University and Houston Methodist. He is also the holder of the Coneway Family Centennial Endowed Chair at Houston Methodist. Dr. Maddock is internationally recognized for his research in health behavior and the effects of natural and built environments on human health.
Dr. Maddock has authored more than 175 peer-reviewed scientific articles and has received numerous awards from the American Public Health Association, the U.S. Surgeon General, the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, and other national organizations. His research has been featured in major national and international media outlets, including The Today Show, CNN, the BBC, Le Monde, Scientific American, USA Today, Eating Well, Prevention, and Good Housekeeping.
Dr. Maddock has held multiple national leadership roles, including serving as President of the American Academy of Health Behavior and as Immediate Past-Chair of the Nature and Health Alliance. He has also served as Chair of the Hawaii Board of Health. Through his scholarship and service, Dr. Maddock has made substantial contributions to advancing the understanding of how natural and built environments influence health and health behavior.
