Call For Poster Presentation Abstracts

2018 Annual Meeting 
"An Equity Approach to Health Behavior Innovations"

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE: September 29, 2017 at 11:59 P.M. PST

The American Academy of Health Behavior invites you to submit your abstracts to be considered for research poster presentations at the annual meeting from March 4-7, 2018 in Portland, Oregon. This year's meeting theme, An Equity Approach to Health Behavior Innovations, recognizes the influence of social and structural contexts on health and health behavior.  To achieve health equity is to attain the highest level of health for all people. Examples of broad topics related to this year's theme include: 

  • A focus on underserved and socially disadvantaged populations 
  • Social determinants of health 
  • Tracking, measuring, and documenting health inequities
  • Etiology and root causes of inequities 
  • Culturally relevant health promotion and intervention strategies 
  • Multi-stakeholder approaches to eliminating health inequities 
  • Access to health resources and healthcare 

General Guidelines- PLEASE READ CAREFULLY 

We particularly encourage submissions that are related to the meeting theme.  Abstracts related to other health behavior topics are also welcome for submission. Preference will be given to quantitative and qualitative research-based abstracts that report complete results. Abstracts are limited to 300 words (not including the title and author names). Please be sure to check the word count before submitting as only the first 300 words will be considered for review.  

You may submit no more than 3 abstracts as the first author. If you submit more than 3 abstracts as the first author, you will be asked to select abstracts for withdrawal.  There are no limits on co-authorship.  If your abstract is accepted, it is expected that you and/or a co-author will register for the meeting and be present for your session. 

No Show Policy: Cancellations for accepted abstract presentations must be due to professional and/or personal/family emergencies and must be communicated directly to the AAHB Research Review Chair. Cancellations must be made prior to the first day of the Annual Meeting. Those violation of this policy will be subject to a one-year probation period during which they may not present at an AAHB annual meeting.

Both members and non-members are encouraged to submit abstracts for the meeting. Authors will be notified of the status of their submission(s) by November 15, 2017

Judy K. Black Early Career Research Award 

During the submission process, you will be asked if you would like to be considered for the Judy K. Black Award. You are eligible for this award if you: 

  1.  Are an early-career health behavior researcher (i.e., individuals with <5 years post doctoral or other terminal degree AND
  2.  Have been an AAHB Affiliate or Full member in good standing for at least 2 years.

Annual Poster Presentation Awards

During the submission process, you will be asked if you would like to be considered for a poster award. AAHB recognizes outstanding posters in the following categories: 

            • Outstanding Research Poster (one awarded)
            • Research Poster of Distinction (multiple awards possible) 
            • Outstanding Student Poster (one awarded)
            • Student Poster of Distinction  (multiple awards possible)
